Loved this scene from season 10 of The Blacklist. Raymond outsmarted everyone in this episode. ..the task force, Wu-Chin, and all of their men. Brilliant.

Franklin had a rough start to begin with and he had good intentions and he was willing to do anything for his friends and family who were also suffering. But success got the better of him and he was willing to cross any line to maintain it.

The thing is, Franklin is only 26-27 years old in this scene, so he can still improve in life. He might not be a millionaire again, but he'll still make decent money if he would accept Leon's help

There's a lot of debate over this ending, half of the people loving it for it's commitment to realism and the other half hating it for not being narratively coherent with what the show setup. However, to me they are both wrong, as anything you write can be considered realistic, and real life doesn't work according to any sort of logic or setups. Some of the most confident and achieved people in real life end up losing it all and become the opposite of what they used to be, but that still doesn't make it good writing. The reason this ending worked for me was not because it was realistic, but because it was thematically consistent with the story's initial premise. It was a show about how people have potential, but that potential ends up being easily wasted if you just happen to grow up in the wrong environment. As Avi told Franklin, he could be anything he wanted to be if he put his mind to it. Franklin just so happened to find himself in a situation where he was in a bad place with seemingly no prospects for his life and in a lot of bad company, and his environment led all that promise in the wrong direction. The nerdy kid we see in the Season 3 finale with a camera, who Leon starts antagonizing, is the series creator John Singleton, as he lived in that area around the time the story takes place. In the series finale, Franklin and Leon walk past a film set, with Franklin even mocking the production by saying they "aren't going to win any oscars". This film is John Singleton's first film, "Boyz n the Hood", which got him an oscar nomination at the age of 24, making him the youngest person to be nominated for best director and jump starting his career. So the show is essentially presenting us with 2 different outcomes of people with potential who both grew in the same environment, and effectively presenting the point about how easily a successful person, who rose above his environment, might have instead ended up being a bum who lost his family to crime. People have a choice, but it's very difficult to go down the right path in a bad environment, and Franklin was one of the people who didn't get lucky. What's especially cruel about this ending is that Franklin doesn't even get any validation or respect for his former success as a criminal. No one remembers him, no one cares about him, it's as if nothing even happened, and he sacrificed everything for it, which is how a crime story should treat crime. I think John Singleton would be proud of how this show ended.
